Treatment overview
Abdominoplasty โ commonly referred to as a tummy tuck โ is one of the most consistently rewarding body procedures performed at Olive Skin & Aesthetics. It removes excess skin and fat from the lower and mid abdomen while simultaneously tightening the underlying abdominal muscles, restoring a flat, firm, and sculpted midsection.
We perform abdominoplasty as a nuanced, anatomy-driven procedure โ not a one-size-fits-all operation. The extent of surgery is precisely matched to the degree of skin laxity, fat distribution, and muscle separation present, ranging from a mini abdominoplasty for patients with isolated lower abdominal concerns to a full or extended abdominoplasty for those with more comprehensive changes around the torso.
When combined with liposuction of the flanks and waist โ a technique sometimes called a high-definition or 360ยฐ tummy tuck โ the result is an hourglass silhouette that is both natural-looking and structurally sound.
- Adults with excess skin and fat in the lower or mid abdomen that does not respond to diet and exercise
- Women who have completed their family and experienced abdominal skin laxity or muscle separation (diastasis recti) following pregnancy
- Individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight and have a residual apron of loose abdominal skin
- Patients at or near their stable ideal body weight โ abdominoplasty is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss operation
- Non-smokers or those willing to cease smoking at least 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after surgery
- Adults in good general health without medical conditions that impair wound healing
- Those who have realistic expectations about the resulting scar along the lower abdomen and around the navel
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 2โ4 hours depending on the extent of surgery. our team makes a low, bikini line incision placed carefully within the bikini line so it remains concealed under underwear and swimwear.
The abdominal skin is lifted to expose the underlying rectus muscles. Where diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles) is present โ a near-universal finding in post-pregnancy patients โ the muscles are re-approximated and sutured in the midline, restoring a natural muscular corset and significantly reducing waist circumference.
Excess skin is resected, the remaining skin is re-draped downward under careful tension, and the navel is repositioned naturally through a new opening. Liposuction is routinely combined to address the flanks and define the waist, and for full or extended procedures, the incision may be extended around the flanks to address the lower back. Drains are placed before closure.
- Days 1โ3: Rest at home with head and knees slightly elevated to reduce tension on the incision. Mild to moderate pain managed with prescribed medication. Compression garment worn continuously.
- Days 4โ7: Short gentle walks encouraged to reduce swelling and clot risk. Drains typically removed. Showering with care permitted.
- Weeks 2โ4: Most patients return to light desk work. Avoid any activity that engages the core or causes abdominal strain. Swelling visibly reduces.
- Months 2โ3: Contour improvements clearly visible. Light exercise (walking, cycling) resumes. Core exercise and heavy lifting remain restricted.
- Months 4โ6: Full exercise programme resumed with clearance. Scar matures from pink to skin-tone. Final result emerges.
- Month 6+: Scars continue to soften for 12โ18 months. A healthy stable weight preserves results long-term.
