Treatment overview
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for hair loss is a scientifically validated, minimally invasive treatment that harnesses the healing and regenerative power of your own blood to stimulate dormant hair follicles and promote natural hair regrowth. At Olive Skin & Aesthetics, PRP is performed by the doctors using a precisely calibrated protocol to maximise platelet concentration and treatment efficacy.
PRP contains growth factors โ including PDGF, VEGF, and TGF โ that signal the scalp’s follicular stem cells to re-enter the active growth phase. The result is a gradual, natural thickening of existing hair, reduction in shedding, and in many patients, visible regrowth in areas of early thinning.
PRP therapy is most effective as a standalone treatment for early-to-moderate hair loss, and as a powerful adjunct to hair transplant surgery โ both before the procedure to condition the scalp and after it to accelerate graft survival and growth.
- Men and women experiencing early to moderate androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness or thinning)
- Individuals with diffuse hair thinning who still retain viable follicles in the affected areas
- Patients seeking a non-surgical, natural alternative or complement to hair transplant surgery
- Hair transplant patients seeking to improve graft survival and accelerate post-operative regrowth
- Adults in good general health without active scalp infections or blood disorders that affect platelet function
The entire session takes approximately 45โ60 minutes and involves no surgical incisions. A small volume of blood โ typically 15โ20 ml โ is drawn from the patient’s arm, identical to a routine blood test. The blood is then spun in a calibrated centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma layer from red blood cells.
The concentrated PRP is then injected directly into the scalp at precise depths across the areas of thinning or hair loss using a fine-gauge needle. A topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand to ensure the procedure is comfortable throughout. Depending on the extent of the area being treated, 30โ60 micro-injections are typically administered per session.
A standard course consists of 3โ4 sessions spaced 4โ6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every 4โ6 months to sustain results.
- Immediately after: Mild redness, tenderness, and occasional pinpoint swelling at injection sites โ all normal and typically resolve within a few hours.
- Day 1โ2: Scalp may feel slightly tight or sensitive. Normal hair washing permitted after 24 hours.
- Week 1โ4: Reduced hair shedding is often the earliest sign that treatment is working.
- Month 2โ3: New fine hair growth may become visible in thinning areas. Hair texture and density begin to improve.
- Month 3โ6: Full benefit of the initial course becomes apparent. Most patients notice significant improvement in hair thickness and coverage.
- Ongoing: Maintenance sessions every 4โ6 months preserve and extend results long-term.
