One of the most common concerns patients have before rhinoplasty surgery is: “Will I have visible scars on my nose after surgery?” It’s a valid concern — and the answer is reassuring.
Closed vs Open Rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty: All incisions are made inside the nostrils. There are absolutely no external scars — no one will ever know you had surgery from looking at your nose.
Open rhinoplasty: A tiny incision is made on the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils). This heals to an extremely fine line that is virtually invisible within a few months.
How Scars Heal
- Week 1–2: The incision site may be slightly pink or red
- Month 1–3: The scar matures and begins to flatten and fade
- Month 6–12: The scar becomes nearly imperceptible
